Abstract
The article describes a collective monograph devoted to Western Transbaikal Region economic modernization in 1880–1930-s. The author concludes that new interpretation of the sources revealed the economic modernization of the region in the Soviet period as projection of Tsarist policy aimed at strengthening Transbaikal Region to consolidate Russia in Inner Asia.
