The article concerns scientific work of Nikolay Nikolaevich Shcherbakov (1937–2005), professor of the Irkutsk State University, one of the leading scientists of domestic historiography of political exile to Siberia. Authors reveal the process of formation and development of Shcherbakov as a scientist, as well as examines his scientific concepts, deal with his contribution to the modern studies organization in this field.
