Abstract
The article concerns the main features and tendencies of the development of social life in Irkutsk in the second half of the XIXth century. The author focuses on the city dwellers’ engagement in the local government authorities and the non-governmental associations’ activities, as well as their engagement in the religious issues. Cultural and leisure aspects of social life of Irkutsk dwellers are analyzed.
