«A Teacher by Vocation, a Talented Teacher Who Was at Height of Modern Education»: M. V. Zagoskin as a Pedagogue in the Era of Liberal Reforms

Abstract
Based on the analysis of M. V. Zagoskin's textbook on homeland studies, his journalistic articles, the novel «Master», memoirs of students and contemporaries, obituaries the authors characterize M. V. Zagoskin's pedagogical views and their translation into practical activities of a teacher, journalist, researcher, a public figure. Zagoskin's extensive public and educational activities are shown in relation to his role as a teacher. The authors consider the influence of the era of reforms on Zagoskin's professional and social activity. By the example of Zagoskin the article characterizes relations between provincial intellectuals and the authorities. Particular attention is paid to the first in Siberia textbook on homeland, written by Zagoskin.
