Abstract
The article concerns the history of translation of Zh. F. Marmontel’s novel «Belisarius», done by Catherine II and her attendants. The author of the novel was condemned in France for free-thought. The article emphasizes the ideas, which were adopted from the novel by the Empress Catherine II, for the Russian society to familiarize with.
