The article deals with the formation of the mechanisms of control of the Buryat-Mongolian region of the RSFSR in 1921-1922, using the example of the activity of one of the power institutions – the national representation of the Buryat-Mongolia at the All-Russian Central Executive Committee in Moscow. The work pays attention to the principles of Soviet national policy and the role of the People's Commissariat for Nationalities Affairs at the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, as the conductor of the state course in the national regions. Based on the archival documents of the State Archives of the Republic of Buryatia, the period of formation of the mission, the direction of its work and the mission to consolidate the national statehood are analyzed. Based on unpublished archival documents, the conclusion that despite the difficult economic conditions, insufficient level of legal consciousness and other factors, the activity of the Buryat-Mongolia representation was of major importance, influencing the wide spheres of social, economic and cultural life of the region.
