The development of the historical concept of the study of the history of Siberian exile by a well-known Irkutsk historiographer, Professor A.A. Ivanov, is being studied. There is source of scientific works of the historian, methodology of research. There is a continuity of traditions and at the same time their development in new historical conditions.
