The article examines the Soviet period and the activities of the national representative office of the Buryat-Mongolian Republic in Moscow, based on archival documents of Fund № 250 «Buryat-Mongolian Mission under the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR» of the State Archives of the Republic of Buryatia. This work highlights the role of the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR in organizing the first major scientific research of the republic's productive forces and population in 1927 and a five-year period in order to create a fundamental research base and develop the region. An integral part of the research was the plans for economic study of the republic's potential, the essence of which is set forth in this publication.
