The article describes Tashkent’s life and scientific activity of prominent Russian astronomer Stratonov V. V., who has worked in Odessa and Pulkovo observatory and has been expelled from the Russian SFSR in 1922. At the turn of XIX–XX cc. he has worked in Tashkent observatory, which has belonged to military department. In the beginning of 1920s Stratonov V. V., as being professor of Moscow University and scientific supervisor of People’s Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR, has taken an active part in the establishment of Turkestan State university along with other prominent Russian scientists. Special focus is on Tashkent, which has been described in memoiristics of Russian abroad of last third of XIX - the beginning of XX cc., among them memories of Kerenskiy A. F., Princess (knyaginya) Baryatinskaya M., merchant Varentsov N. A., official Chirkin S. V., official of Ministry of agriculture Tatishchev A. A., Duma member – Prince (knyaz) Vasil’chikov I.S. Moreover, the memoirs of Stratonov V. V. also have taken a special place, being in keeping in the archive of Russian house abroad n.a. Solzhenitsyn A.
