The article examines the modern history of the Qiqihar Daurs, which is a large ethno-territorial group of Daur people of China. The periods of rule of the Republic of China and Manchukuo were analyzed. The authors studied the activities of Longjiang County, where the Qiqihar Daurs lived compactly; revealed the main stages of reforming the administrative-territorial system of the county. They also examined the issues of the Daur ethnicity, the uprising by Shaolan and Daifu (1914–1920). The policy of resettlement of various peoples (Chinese, Daur, Japanese) was carried out in the county from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of the Manchukuo period. The Manchukuo government tightened its policies by the 40s of the 20th century. The Qiqihar Daurs were outraged by such measures as the food tax, the ban on the use of rice, the migration of Japanese families. Moreover, the article pays attention on actual problems such as the creation of the Mongolian self-defense brigade in 1945, the first battles with the Kuomintang and the evacuation of the CPC institutions from Qiqihar.
