The article is devoted to the life and work of the famous Russian historian of modern history of France, doctor of historical sciences, professor Gennady N. Novikov (1949–2008). Contains basic biographical information, traced the stages of his creative growth. His work was particularly noted in the second half of the 80s as a teacher in the Republic of Mali, to which two essays of the scientist are published.
