The article examined the materials of the archive of foreign policy of the Russian Empire and the archive of the Federal Security Service of Russia. The authors investigated the strengthening position of Japan in the far north-east of China. They studied the activities of Japanese instructors in the Kharchin’s troop in 1917, and also found out the names of Japanese officers. Japanese instructors actively worked in the Khalkhin Gol area in 1917. The article also examined the criminal cases of Daurian politicians Merce and Fumintai. They were accused of spying for Japan. The authors found the names of people who worked with Daurian figures.
