The publication of the reviewed book introduces the modern reader to the life and works of one of the first Irkutsk local historians P. I. Pezhemsky. The review presents the characteristics of his main work “Panorama of the Irkutsk Province”, which has come down to us in full form with the author's comments more than a century and a half after writing. This work is a voluminous study devoted to the history, peoples, nature, and geography of a vast territory. It has not lost its scientific significance until now and will undoubtedly find interested readers. In addition, the book publishes another work of a local historian – the Chronicle of the city of Irkutsk
