Abstract
The article examines the communicative practices of government and society using the example of the visits of East Siberian (Irkutsk) governors general to the Yakut region. The source base for the study was archival materials from the collections of the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Archive of the Irkutsk Region and the National Archive of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). A comparative typological method was used. The circle of contacts of governors-general during revisions of the territory was reconstructed and analyzed, attention was paid to encouraging foreigners in the region as a component of the ethnic policy of the empire. The visit of the governors-general was an important event for the region; it gave the local population the opportunity to directly voice the pressing problems of their societies and demonstrate elements of culture and customs.
