Abstract
The analysis of the monograph “The History of the Ust-Orda Buryat District” is given. (Ed. Dameshek L. M.). covering the period of the history of the Western Buryats from the epoch of antiquity to the present day. There is a large number of newly introduced historical sources, regulations, and a good knowledge of the problem by the authors of modern, including foreign literature, which made it possible to create a complete picture of the historical destinies of the peoples of the region as part of Russia, to trace the change in the legal status of the district. to analyze the process of the referendum on the unification of the district and the Irkutsk region, the development of the economy and the salt industry of the district as part of the region.
