Regional Security in Historical Context: Review of the Monograph on the Problems of the Law Enforcement System in the Asian Fringes of the Russian Empire in the Late 17th – Early 20th Century

Abstract
The reviewed monograph is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of mechanisms for ensuring internal security in the on the Asian fringes of the Russian Empire in the late 17th – early 20th centuries. The author explores the administrative, military, legal and socio-cultural aspects of the imperial authorities' policies aimed at maintaining stability in a region characterized by ethnic, religious and economic diversity. The work focuses on the evolution of the governance system, the role of local officials, the interaction of the central authority with the autochthonous population, as well as methods to counter security threats. The review notes the scientific novelty of the study, based on a wide range of published and unstudied primary sources, indicates the methodology and conceptual provisions of the work. The reviewer analyzes the text of the presented work, identifies its strengths and weaknesses, considers the most interesting story lines of the stated problem of regional security. The study is of considerable interest to historians, political scientists and specialists in regional studies, offering not only a detailed reconstruction of the past, but also topical parallels for understanding modern security challenges in multi-ethnic spaces.
