Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the contribution of the Siberian historian, Professor I. I. Kuznetsov, to the study of the history of the Soviet generals. The researcher's interest in this
topic arose in the 1940s and resulted in the creation of an extensive card index with biographical data
of the generals of the Red Army. I. I. Kuznetsov was one of the first to study the fates of the highest
officer corps, using archival materials and publications in the press. Particular attention is paid to his
works, revealing the tragic pages of repressions against Soviet military leaders. The article notes that
before Kuznetsov, the topic of the Soviet generals was little studied, and his works became a valuable source of information for historians. The historian's works not only restore biographies, but also
analyze the reasons for the generals' successes and failures, and reveal the relationship between personal destinies and political events. The importance of Kuznetsov's research for an objective understanding of the history of the Red Army and Soviet society is emphasized.
