Prevost Guillaume de Tignonville and the Investigation in November 1407 (To the History of the Châtelet in the Early 15th Century)

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the specifics of the investigative practice of the Chatelet in the early 15th century using the example of the investigation of the murder of Duke Louis of Orleans. Since the crime was committed within the boundaries of the provost's judicial district, the investigation was entrusted to Guillaume de Tignonville, the provost of Paris. The surviving report allows us to trace the methodology of the investigation, the circle of persons involved, the methods of working with witnesses and evidence, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the provost's service.
