Abstract
The study examines attempts to reform the missionary work in the Yenisei Diocese at the
beginning of the 20th century, due to the failure of the spiritual missions, which was caused by the
specific conditions of living in Siberia. The study also examines the project of the Yenisei Diocesan
Committee of the Orthodox Missionary Society, which proposed a mission for monastic clergy, and
the report by Hieromonk Makarii (Suslov), which was first introduced into scientific circulation,
justifying the advantage of white (family) clergy in missionary work. The article identifies the practice of home education of non-Russian children proposed by Hieromonk V. Kuzmin and the theses of Priest V. Kuzmin. The author concludes that the complex issues of the empire's missionary work in
the early 20th century.
