Abstract
This article is devoted to the Siberian expedition of the renowned Japanese anthropologist, archaeologist, and ethnologist Torii Ryuzo (1870–1953), which he conducted in the summer of 1919. Excited by the archaeological and ethnographic materials found in the Russian Far East and Siberia, Torii Ryuzo traveled from Vladivostok to Irkutsk, studying museum collections and touring archaeological sites, amid the civil war and the Soviet intervention. The article examines Torii Ryuzo's research priorities, their immediate implementation, and the challenges he encountered during his scientific research in Siberia.
