Abstract
The study demonstrates the strategies of peasant survival during the years of collectivization and dekulakization in the USSR. The work is based on a personal source, the diary of Lidia Petrovna Fayzrakhmanova, who was born in 1926 in the Kirensky District of the Irkutsk Region. Her family was repressed and spent many years in special settlements located on the Mama and Vitim rivers. The author's memoirs provide an opportunity to reconstruct the life journey of a family against the backdrop of the large-scale events that took place in the Soviet Union (collectivization, industrialization, the Great Patriotic War, etc.). The eyewitness accounts of these events are an important addition to the “official” history, including the confirmation of the forced nature of the modernization processes that unfolded in the country in the late 1920s and 1930s.
