Development of Urban Infrastructure and Amenities in Irkutsk During the Early Post-War Years

Abstract
The article discusses the reconstruction and development of the municipal economy and the improvement of Irkutsk in the first post-war years. Based on archival sources and press materials from the 1940s, the article traces the practical implementation of the planned measures and the role of voluntary labor of the city's residents in the improvement of the city. It is noted that despite the significant difficulties associated with the lack of necessary materials and financial resources, the city authorities paid great attention to the repair of building facades, roads, and the reconstruction of municipal networks. The transportation infrastructure was restored, and regular bus and riverboat services were organized, and a tram line was built and launched. The article concludes that landscaping and the creation of a socio-cultural landscape play a crucial role in shaping the urban environment and identity of a Siberian city.
