Scientific, Cultural and Educational Societies in Pre-revolutionary Irkutsk: Comparative Characteristics

Abstract
The article considers the process of formation of scientific, cultural and educational societies (SCES) within the context of the development of non-governmental initiative of Irkutsk’s dwellers in the second half of the XIXth – the beginning of the XXth centuries. The groups of SCES are divided according to their goals. The author compares the number of their members, as well as their activities and contribution to the development of the city’s cultural life.
