Abstract

The role of N. N. Muravyev-Amursky in the origin and direction of the first East Siberian newspapers – the official «Irkutsk provincial sheets» and the officious «Amur» – is revealed. The role of these publications in the informational support of the activities of the general gubernatorial authority for the management and the development of the Amur Oblast, the strengthening law and order, the fight against abuses by lower-level and middle-level officials is shown, relying on a socially diverse circle of local authors. The established historiographical tradition is criticized about the leading role of the Petrashevists – N. A. Speshnev, M. V. Petrashevsky and F. N. Lvov – in the creation and management of the unofficial part of the «Irkutsk provincial sheets», its definition as the «mouthpiece of the Petrashevist society» in Irkutsk, the newspaper «Amur» as the first private independent publication created by local and exiled intelligentsia.
