Based on the sources of personal provenance the article examines one of the important parts of the Russian Empire’s Far-Eastern policies at the end XIX – beginning XX cc. – its participation in suppression of «the Boxer Rebellion» in China. This event became a turning point in the terms between Russia and China, it had sharply aggravated the relationships between them and strained international situation in the Far East. Though Russia was a guarantor of Qing China’s security after Sino-Japanese War 1894-1895 and its associate against Japan, it along with some European countries had participated in territorial partition of China and in military campaign against «boxers», who strongly objected Christianity. The establishment of Russia’s control in the Eastern Manchuria, and hostile attitude of the USA and the Western European countries towards Russia, eventually had led to Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. The authors bring into scientific circulation previously unknown memoirs, diaries and records of epistolary heritage. Not destined for the press, they were created after the events, authors’ attitude being rather unbiased and the contents of sources representing the author’s personality.
