Abstract
The article concerns the activity of E. M. Zhukovsky, the military Governor of Transbaikal area in 1861–1863. On the basis of some records from the State Archives of Zabaikalsky Krai the author emphasizes the Governor’s contribution to the development of education. Social and economic projects, which were implemented afterwards, are of interest.
