Abstract
The published research contains a reconstruction of the social and educational activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in one of the remote national outskirts of the empire – the Yakut region in the context of the communicative practices of the spiritual department, identifying their context, strategies and features. It is determined that the translational channels of Orthodox communication are correlated with the missionary and parish activities of the clergy and its interaction with the potestar elites, church building, translation activities and school work were the basis for the creation of communication, and diocesan periodicals became an element of everyday life. It is noted that the choice of communication channels took place in accordance with the norms of Orthodoxy and the tasks of the Russian Orthodox Church and taking into account local specifics, when communication practices depended on various factors of an objective and subjective nature. The primacy of the spiritual department of Yakutia in the socio-cultural integration of local ethnic groups, which contributed to overcoming intercivilizational barriers, was emphasized. It is concluded that the communication process was formed depending on the goals and objectives of the internal policy of the state, and the territorial remoteness of the region and the specifics of residence determined its specialness.
