Finnish Historiography of the Vyborg Province in the First Half of the 19th Century

Author(s)
A. G. Nechaev
Abstract
The history of the Vyborg province was written by two countries – Russia and Finland. Two different historiographies were formed. Finnish historiography is practically inaccessible to the Russian researcher. This is largely due to the language barrier and the inaccessibility of literature. Thus, the Russian side is deprived of a rich source of information. It can be said that at present it is impossible to describe the history of the Vyborg province without using Finnish research. The period of the early 19th century is an important period in the history of this region, poorly represented in Russian historiography, but widely in Finnish. Therefore, it is extremely important to understand what main topics and interpretations of the history of the Vyborg province in the first half of the 19th century are described in Finnish historiography and what works exist on this time period.
