“School of Practical Communism”: Student Dormitories in the 1920s

Author(s)
I. V. Sidorchuk
Abstract
The student dormitory of the 1920s is considered as a space of everyday life, which had an important influence on Soviet students. It is concluded that it contributed to the formation of a system of daily practices that were not voluntary, but forced or imposed. Ideally, it should become a place of celebration of the ideals of collectivism, which, despite attempts to solve numerous problems, became a symbol of total social disorder and a school of survival for young people.
