Author(s)
L. M. Dameshek, A. D. Vasilyev
Abstract

The article is aimed at the analysis of the social portrait of the governors of Yakutia who held the post from 1805 to 1852. The authors examine issues of the emergence and development of this form of governance in the northeast of Russia, age and post occupancy limits, career following the resignation, experience of administrative, economic, and other practices, class origin, education, salary level. The study is conducted on the basis of comparative and chronological methods. The article is based on the normative acts and records, records and records. The authors emphasize political nature of the authority of governors on the peripheries of the Empire, and personal trust of the Governors-General towards them. The article high-lights that governance in Siberia was based both on the Russian Empire legislation and on the legislative acts, developed specifically for that particular territory. The most important of the legislative acts was "Body of legislation for Siberia" of 1822.
