Deer Stone as a Symbol of Humanism of Ancient Ethnic Groups

Author(s)

Abstract

The article considers unique historical monuments so called deer stones. They are stone steles, erected in the form of slabs or pillars, carved with depictions of beamed deer. Deer stones represent the nomad tribes’ ideas of the life and death, terrestrial and celestial, sacral and secular. They were erected to guarantee a decent afterlife to the departed relatives, as well as prosperity to the living. The archeologists are well aware of the deer stones. However, the deer stones remain unheeded by the scientific and cultural society. Their authentic humanist meaning is not of great current interest yet.
