Abstract

The paper introduces the specifics of the Sonyeon (“Youth”) journal, where the first text on Peter the Great in Korea was published, and considers publication activities of Choe Nam-seon (1890–1957), a leading representative of the Enlightenment movement. It also analyzes the influence of this context on the later perception of the figure of the Russian Tzar.
