Abstract
This article analyzes the process of democratization in Japanese universities, which has significantly influenced society and education, changing the nature and content of learning. The most significant transformations occurred in the post-war period due to political and legal decisions. Democratization clashed with the conservatism of Japanese society, which also affected the field of higher education.
