Culture and Education of the Daur People in the First Half XX Century

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of such aspects of culture and education of Daur people as school education, literature. The author studied primary and secondary schools in areas of compact residence of Daur people. The article contains new statistics on the number of students in various Daur regions. The author studied the stages of the formation of the school system, the appearance of public elementary schools of the first and second stages. The work analyzed the transition from teaching the Manchu language and writing to teaching Chinese and Mongolian languages. The author noted the activities of Merse and Fu Mingtai, who opened two primary schools in the Hailar area. He studied the facts of the opening and functioning of private schools, pedagogical colleges, the first vocational schools. The author found out the educational center was in the city of Zhalantun, administrative center of the province of East Khingan. Some educational institutions had the necessary conditions for teaching students. Daur youth had training in higher educational institutions of Northeast China and Japan. Some students studied in the Soviet Union. The Daur intelligentsia made attempts to create its own written language. Daur scientists published works on the history and culture of the people.
