Employees of the Siberian Regional Branches of the National Bank of the Second Half of the XIX – Early XX Century: Dynamics of Social Composition (Based on the Irkutsk Branch of the State Bank)

Abstract

The article analyzes the dynamics of social and personnel composition of employees of the Irkutsk branch of the National Bank in the second half of the XIX – early XX century as an element of the corps of employees of the Siberian regional branches of the National Bank during the period of capitalist modernization. The research sources are based on regulations and correspondence, official and track records. The article studies changes in number and staff of the Bank Department employees. The staff expansion and Bank employees increases are considered to be in connection with a significant increase in the volume of operations of the Department, the assignment of the status of branch I (higher) category, the introduction in 1912 of new departments – Settlement and Inspection of small loans. The analysis of the social composition of the management corps of the Irkutsk branch of the State Bank has been presented. There are determinations of age and terms of service, class origin, education, size of salary. The dynamics of changes in the educational level of senior, junior and lower ranks, the characteristics of gender and religious composition of employees, the strategy of their career growth. The questions of social security of Bank employees are investigated. Considerable attention is drawn to the analysis of practices of material and symbolic encouragement of employees, conditions of pensioning. Changes in the personnel of the Irkutsk branch during the First World war are noted. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the employees of the Irkutsk branch of the Natioanal Bank represented a relatively closed socio-professional group, whose representatives rarely declared themselves in the public and public life of the city.
