Abstract

In the article, on the basis of sources not previously investigated and not introduced into scientific circulation, the specific features of the entrepreneurial activity of the» Northern Commercial and Industrial Partnership» are investigated. The purpose of the publication is to identify the features of the economic policy of the «Northern Commercial and Industrial Partnership» in the development of the wholesale fur trade in North-East Siberia at the beginning of the 20th century. The article indicates that in the period under study there was a high level of internal competition in the industry. In order to establish the economic domination of local firms with large capital in 1914, the «Northern Commercial and Industrial Partnership» was created in the form of a limited partnership. The author revealed that the company pursued a certain economic policy in the industry. The article noted a number of unique features. In the first feature of the economic policy of the partnership highlighted the organizational and legal form of the enterprise. The company was created in the form of a partnership in the faith, which in its structure had a certain similarity with the joint-stock company. The second feature of the partnership’s economic policy was the active use of domestic sources of financing. The third feature was related to the possibility of transforming a limited partnership into a joint-stock company. The fourth feature was the creation of a structured trading apparatus of the «Northern Commercial and Industrial Partnership», consisting of managers and clerks. The establishment of high purchase prices for fur by clerks of the partnership and the supply of fishers with consumer goods made it possible to oust shareholders from the northern industrial districts of Siberia. In the years 1914–1918 the average growth rate of the annual turnover of the «Northern Commercial and Industrial Partnership» in the fur trade in Northeast Siberia was 32 %. The main outcome of the partnership’s economic policy was to strengthen the position of industry leaders and weaken the influence of shareholders.
