The Role of Merchants in the Process of Incorporation of the Siberian Outskirts into the General Imperial Space at the End of the 18th–19th Centurys

Abstract

The monograph by E.V. Komleva, devoted to the study of the contribution of the Siberian merchants to the economic development and study of North-Eastern Eurasia at the end of the 18th–19th centuries, is reviewed. This publication notes the contribution of the author of the monograph to the formation of modern historiography of the problem of self-awareness and moral character of the Siberian merchants. It is indicated that, based on an analysis of a wide range of published and unpublished sources, the author of the monograph considered the features of merchant entrepreneurship, moral and ethical foundations and common practices of doing business, the participation of merchants in fishing and research expeditions, charitable, educational, social activities, and foreign economic practice. This publication analyzes the role of the author of the monograph in the development of such a modern trend in historiography as personal history. In the conclusion, it is noted that the monograph has scientific and practical significance, is of undoubted scientific interest and significance, and has a strict scientific structuring.
